Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust Research and Development Directorate, is looking to appoint a 1.0 WTE (5 days per week) Research Assistant to work on an MRC/NIHR Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation funded project (the CARMS trial: Cognitive AppRoaches to coMbatting Suicidality).
This study will investigate psychological mechanisms underlying suicidal thoughts and behaviours in people experiencing psychosis living in the community as part of an RCT.
The RCT will test the effectiveness of a bespoke psychological intervention for suicidal thoughts and behaviours in people experiencing severe mental illnesses. The project is a joint endeavour across 4 NHS Trusts together with the School of Health Sciences, University of Manchester, and the SPECTRUM Centre, University of Lancaster. The Chief Investigator is Dr. Patricia Gooding and Co-Principal Investigator is Professor Gillian Haddock, University of Manchester. The post is fixed term for 6 months, with some scope of extending the contract. An estimated start date is of mid-late May 2019.
As a Research Assistant working with the CARMS team, you will be responsible for i. recruitment and retention into the project, ii. conducting quantitative assessments at baseline, on therapy cessation at 6 months, and at 12 months follow-up, iii. accurate data entry including following reliability protocols, iv. aiding the CARMS team in monitoring and managing suicide risk, and v., assisting with social responsibility activities.
The successful candidates will be based in the R and D directorate in the Rawnsley Building at Manchester Royal Infirmary and will work closely with project team members. The successful candidate will be assigned to work in one of 5 localities and will be expected to work across localities as and when needed.
Candidates should have at least a 2:i in Psychology and experience of research and working with people with mental health problems.
