Institution: Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory, University of Glasgow, Scotland.
Supervisory team: Professor Rory O’Connor & Dr Katie Robb.
Position: PhD Student & Distress Brief Intervention Practitioner.
Current research: I am interested in researching the relationship between social media engagement and self-harm and suicidal behaviour, and factors that may mediate this, particularly emotional intelligence.
Research interests:
- Influence of social media on self-harm and suicidal behaviour
- Emotional intelligence
- Lived experience in researching and working in mental health, in particular self-harm and suicide
Can help with: Being around to chat or vent about any aspect of research or life, helping proof-read chapters/papers or second screening aspects of systematic reviews (e.g. title/abstract screening and quality assessment).
What’s essential to your well-being? Making a weekly plan/timetable that helps me to schedule in periods to work on each part of my PhD (quant study, qual study and systematic review currently) and balance this with work and personal time. Keeping physically active at the gym, football and ice skating. Making sure to spend enough time with my partner and pets.
