Institution: Florida State University, USA.
Supervisory team: Dr. Jessica Ribeiro.
Position: PhD Student.
Current research: My Master’s research aims to characterize and predict suicide plans in the short term. I am currently working on building traditional statistical models as well as machine learning models to predict suicide planning in high-risk sample populations. I’m also exploring the ethics behind algorithm construction and use for predicting suicide outcomes.
Research interests:
- Suicide plans
- Short-term prediction of suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Machine learning, dynamical systems, and network analyses
- Temporal dynamics of suicidal behaviour, individual differences
Recent Publications:
- Linthicum, K. P., Schafer, K. M., & Ribeiro, J. D. (2019). Machine learning in suicide science: Applications and ethics. Behavioral Sciences & the Law. doi: 10.1002/bsl.2392
Can help with: Quantitative methods, open science tools, reference management, cross-cultural perspectives, living on a student stipend.
What’s essential to your well-being? Board games, puzzles, dancing, chats with my supervisor and other students, sleep, beach trips, soaking up the Florida sunshine.
